Start on page identifies the physical PDF page where visible numbering begins. First number controls the value printed on that page. As an example, numbering can begin on the second PDF page while the first visible number is 1.
How should I select the page number margin?
The margin controls the distance between the number and the page edge. Increase it when the number appears too close to the edge or might be cut off during printing. Reduce it carefully when the document has limited space around the main content.
Does adding page numbers create document navigation?
No. Visible page numbers help readers identify and reference pages, but they do not automatically create bookmarks, internal links, or a table of contents. Those navigation features need to be added separately.
